DIY – Milk Bottle Etching

Upcycle should be my middle name, because one of my favorite things to do is finding creative ideas to reuse something that would usually go to the landfill and transform it into something beautiful. Recently Starbucks Frappucino bottles are my favorite upcycle “victims”. I love to use them at our brunch parties with freshly squeezed orange juice and a cute paper straw, or wrap a ribbon around them, add flowers and take to our picnics to adorn our table (see picture below).

This holiday season, I’m all about homemade gifts for friends and family, so I thought etching some monogram letters on milk bottles would make a perfect gift for my girlfriends to use as little vases in their homes. You could also give one as a hostess gift with fresh flowers. Do you have another idea for reusing milk bottles? Leave me a comment, I’d love to hear about it.

STEPS:

1)  Place the stencils on the glass (most brands are slightly sticky and can easily be placed and removed)

2)  Place scotch tape on the borders (you can skip this step if you’ve got patience, a small brush and a steady hand)

3)  Apply etching paste to the stencil (leave it for about 5 minutes)

5)  Rinse with warm tap water

6)  Remove adhesive

7)  Marvel at your talent

*  I forgot to add rubber gloves in the photo, but it is highly suggested to use them, because the etching cream can burn your skin.

And this is how I used the milk bottles in our picnic in a park with friends:
