Ai WeiWei at the Smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum

Living in the D.C. area there’s always something new to see.  You can count on the plethora of museums, particularly the Smithsonian Museums (of which there are 18 in D.C.) to have great new and interesting rotating exhibits, and of course all Smithsonians are free.

Through February 24th, the Hirshhorn Museum is having an Ai Weiwei exhibit titled: “Ai Weiwei: According to What?”, which includes some of his most celebrated works. Ai Weiwei is a controversial Chinese contemporary artist.  His works on display include photography, sculpture, and installations of all sizes: Huge cubes made from curtains of crystal and glowing lights, massive snakes made from children’s backpacks, ancient Chinese pottery broken and painted and much more.  His work speaks on Chinese tradition, government repression, modern industry and consumer society.  If you’re in the D.C. area, you’ve got just over a week to check it out, and I highly recommend you do.
